Über diese Maschine
The Airbus A318 is part of the A320 family. It's the smallest family member.
Only less than 100 units were built. As a maximum of 132 could board this Baby Airbus the operating costs were too high for airlines.
F-GUGJ was delivered to Air France in 2005. The French airline had a total of 18 A318s in operation, which are gradually being retired.
F-GUGJ was mainly used in Europe and North Africa.
It was finally cut up in Holland in 2024.
A special feature of the A318 were the small wings on the nosegear, also known as strakes. These were necessary because, in contrast to other Airbus models, the distance from the nose gear to the angel of attack sensors was smaller and the airflow would have disturbed the sensors when the landing gear was extended. These small wings ensured correct readings, especially when flying at high angles of attack. Very special aircrafttags were made from these parts. They are painted on both sides and cannot be personalized.
